Roulette Equipment

Now, when you play roulette, you'll see there's quite a lot of roulette equipment involved. What's what and what is everything used for? Take a look at our roulette equipment guide in order to add to your roulette knowledge.

Roulette Tables

In American casinos there are 2 standard roulette table styles. The more common table is the single-betting layout table, which has the roulette wheel located at the end of the table, which has just 1 betting layout. The other style is the "double-end" table, with 2 betting layouts and a single wheel in the middle of the table.

Roulette Layout

The roulette table layout is printed on green felt. The design of the table is multicolored, in black, red and white. There are a few sections in the layout. The main section contains 36 rectangular spaces, numbered from 1 to 36. These spaces are arranged in 3 columns of 12 numbers each. The numbers are ordered in a sequence, starting with 1, 2, 3… on the side closest to the roulette wheel, and ending in 34, 35, 36 on the far side of the table. Below the numbers spaces, there are three spaces with the words "1st 12", "2nd 12" and "3rd 12" on them. These spaces refer to the numbers 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36 in that order. When a bet is placed on one of these spaces, it means any of the numbers mentioned in the chosen 12 will win the bet, if it comes out on the spin. On the bottom side of the layout (below 34, 35 and 36) there are 3 spaces. These spaces are "column bet" spaces. When a bet is placed on the middle space, for instance, every number on the middle column will win the bet if it comes out in the roulette.

Roulette Balls

The roulette balls are made of plastic or ivory, and they varies from 1/2 to 3/4 inch in size.

Wheel checks (chips)

Standard roulette tables use 5-7 sets of chips, also known as wheel checks. Each chip set has a different color than the other sets, and contains 300 chips. Each player in roulette uses a different set, and his chips are recognized by their color. Sometimes there are also colors to mark the value of the chips.

Roulette Wheels

The two styles of roulette wheels are American roulette, which contains both 0 and 00, and the European / French roulette, with only a single 0. American casinos usually have the American roulette, while European and South American casinos will usually have European roulette. Apart of the 0 and 00 issue, the wheels are built quite the same. The wheel is actually made of 2 parts – the table, which is stable and still, and the actual wheel, which is rotated by the roulette dealer.
